Video gaming is set to reach new heights in 2025, with multiple developers pushing the boundaries of online interaction and cooperative gameplay. Some of the most anticipated games of 2025 have dedicated multiplayer components, either competitive or cooperative. Given that there will be a lot of games published this year, many fans are thrilled that many of them will feature massive multiplayer online gaming (MMO).

Monster Hunter Wilds is the latest and the most ambitious entry in this long-running franchise. As a hunter, it is your job to defeat infamous creatures. As you hunt them, you can use their skins and bones to craft powerful equipment.

The title offers a visually stunning world with a seamless map, which is a huge improvement over the older ones. This game will feature a deep cooperative option that enables numerous players to go on a hunt together, just like the previous installments in the franchise.

3. ‘GTA 6’

Platforms: PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PC
Release date: TBA

Rockstar Games is keeping its lips sealed about the upcoming blockbuster open-world game. Fans and journalists alike were impressed by the game’s first trailer, but the makers haven’t given any information about GTA 6 since—not even a release date. On the other hand, we can be very sure that it will come with a multiplayer online version.

GTA Online was introduced to the franchise in GTA 5, and it answered the call of many gamers who wished for a full-fledged multiplayer mode with as much freedom as its base version since the release of GTA: San Andreas. To us, it makes sense, given the amount of content these games get over the years in the form of updates and expansions. However, we will have to await an official confirmation by Rockstar Games or Take-Two Interactive on this.

4. New ‘Call of Duty’ game

Platforms: PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PC
Release date: TBA

With the yearly additions to this franchise, a new Call of Duty release this year is all but certain. Which plot will this new game be a part of, one wonders? Given that Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 came out in 2024, Infinity Ward might want to consider an alternative storyline. Many are even questioning whether Modern Warfare 4 will ever be released.

5. New ‘Battlefield’ title

Platforms: PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PC
Release date: TBA

After more than three years, DICE is finally bringing the Battlefield franchise back, and fans are ecstatic. The Swedish creators recently unveiled a video outlining the series’ expansion and revealing that their most recent game will be the largest addition to the roster to yet. The new Battlefield game is set to feature a cinematic campaign mode. To many followers of the franchise, this will come as a breath of fresh air as the last couple of titles were not too narrative-driven.

The new Battlefield game is, without question, one of the biggest and most exciting multiplayer games releasing in 2025.

6. Elden Ring Nightreign

Platforms: PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PC
Release date: TBA

Nightreign is a full-fledged spinoff of Elden Ring, one of the biggest hits in recent years. It will be a cooperative survival role-playing game (RPG) with a randomly generated world and roguelike elements. A map can be explored by up to three players, who can then slay bosses and continue to progress through the game world until they encounter their worst enemy. The hitch is that, similar to battle royale games, the map will continue to get smaller as each stage goes by.

Compared to the original game, the characters in Elden Ring Nightreign appear to be considerably more mobile; they can run faster, jump higher, and have infinite stamina while not engaged in combat. Furthermore, the Storm King is one of the bosses in this game—yes, the fabled foe from Dark Souls 3 is returning in this spinoff. As the publication date draws nearer, we are excited to find out more about how he fits into Elden Ring’s story. We’re also interested to see if Nightreign will feature the fabled weapons and gear from the original game.

Although they haven’t been revealed yet, we’re curious if any of the games listed above from our list of the top multiplayer games coming out in 2025 will be available on iOS or Android. If they do, fans will be ecstatic! We can only wait and see how things work out for the time being.
